Couceiro trusts Borja Jiménez and sees a tougher group: 'He is objectively stronger'

The Deportivo president also made a point of making a brief analysis of the first team’s sporting situation. Couceiro wanted to show his confidence in Borja Jiménez and also spoke about the new composition of the RFEF First Division groups, in which the Herculean team will face very different rivals from those they had this season.

About the Avila technician, the president assures that they have evaluated “different steps” with the technical reports of those responsible for the technical secretariat. And, for this reason, they felt that the best of them was “to give continuity and try to improve everything that could have failed last season or we can improve”.

In this sense, Couceiro affirms that “we have confidence and we have given our full support to Borja Jiménez, whose delivery was complete. We are convinced to build on what we already have and to improve our performance as a team”.

For this reason, he believes that not obtaining a promotion should not overshadow “the good things that have been done”, which “the level of competitiveness that Racing de Santander has shown would have made this practically impossible”. For this reason, he considers that, although he cannot compete, the numbers of the team “are remarkably large or conspicuous“.

Regarding the fateful match against Albacete, the La Coruña coach claims that “the promotion was lost seven minutes from the end and in complex circumstances”, but he believes that “the general balance of the season must be subjectively negative , since promotion was the big goal”. . But objectively it was positive.”

Deportivo will face a very different group

The reconfiguration of the RFEF first division groups fully affects a Dépor who will, for example, have to play in Ceuta. Which leads Couceiro to affirm that “a very different group matched us. It’s objectively stronger.”.

He also leaves a curiosity about the meeting in which the composition of the groups was corroborated: “The first thing to say is that the design of the two groups was voted on by all the clubs, except the one that was Real Sociedad B which was unable to log in. He won this proposal by one vote. Logistically, it hurts the economy of Deportivo, travel is more expensive and complex. This is the group that affected us , we will have to try to get the promotion“.

Regarding the money the televisions will leave behind, Couceiro says he doesn’t believe there will be many changes next year. “We have exceeded 300,000 euros in revenue for the audience contributions that Deportivo have made,” he concluded.
