Every time Instagram decides to change its algorithm, a controversy arises around the social network due to the alterations that occur when it comes to displaying content. However, the company’s goal is provide users with a more personalized experience.
Instagram has been making changes and testing in its algorithm for months to get users to appear content closest to your interests. “We are testing the ability to bookmark multiple posts on the section Explore like “not interested”. We will immediately hide these posts and refrain from showing you similar content in the future,” the company said in a statement. This way, the user will have the opportunity to let Instagram know you don’t want to see certain posts suggested with certain keywords at the bottom of the photo or hashtags.
This whole change in Instagram’s algorithm is meant to give the user the ability to “tell” Instagram what kind of posts they prefer to see. The suggested content will contain some words, phrases or emojis that will let the app know if the post is to the user’s liking. For this reason, in the “Explore” section, the algorithm will always show you the content that interests you. This follows the line set by social media trends in 2022.
Instagram is betting on a more personalized experience with the new algorithm
One of the great changes that has occurred in the social network is that not all the publications of the people we follow appear in our feed, in addition to the fact that they are not positioned in chronological order. Besides the suggestions they show us the posts we are most likely to interact with. “We prioritize posts that we think you’re most likely to enjoy, but we understand that we don’t always get it right,” Instagram explains on its blog. This causes a situation that makes it necessary to know the reasons for providing customer support for Instagram.
This dynamic has been favored by options that offer the possibility to select an account in the “favorites”, This way, posts from these profiles will appear at the top of the feed and more frequently. Also, the option to “show only favorites” means that we only get content from that account. On the other hand, Instagram added the option Why do you see this message? so you can learn more about why this content appears at a specific height in the feed. Re new features of Instagram that arrive with the algorithm change, the following stand out:
- “Not interested”: gives the option to click on the “not interested” option in the three dots that appear at the top right of a message. The algorithm will take this into account to show you future posts.
- Postponement of the suggested publication: suggested content can be postponed for up to 30 days if it overwhelms us.
- Sensitive content setting: allows you to hide certain types of content that you do not want to appear in the feed.
